One-size vs Sized!

Many pocket diapers and AIOs are available in sized or one-size varieties.

Sized simply means they come in small, medium, large, etc. Sized diapers are more expensive in the long run because you have to buy new diapers for each size. They are, however, more trim-fitting and less bulky on smaller babies than one-size diapers. The benefit of sized diapers is that they will usually fit a newborn-smallish baby right away.

One-size diapers are cheaper in the long run because they typically adjust to fit a baby from 8-10lbs all the way to toddlerhood (30-45lbs). They have either fold or snap down rise adjustments (snap it all the way small for newborn sized unsnap completely for large/toddler size). OS diapers usually won't fit a newborn right away because the leg holes are too big. They can sometimes look pretty bulky on younger babies, but you can always use a smaller/thinner insert to help with this. Most of our diapers are OS (one-size) because we started using cloth at 4 months.

  1. We bought one of the thirsties duo wraps in size 1 when my daughter was a newborn (6lbs 15oz). Size one is 6-18lbs and she grew out of it by 2 1/2 months. She is almost 8 months old now and only weighs 18 lbs, so technically she should have been able to wear them for the past 4 1/2 months. She isn't a really chubby baby and has slender to medium sized thighs so I was really disappointed! We stuck with regular thirsties covers, she just moved up from small to medium. I'm still deciding if I like Fuzzi Bunz, since they leak every time I use them on her.

  2. That's too bad about the Thirsties. I haven't tried the duos (we started when DD was 4 months aready) but I like the sized ones a lot.

We have one daisy print FB that I reeeallly want to like because it's cute, but I hate the hip snaps. We have a hard time getting a good fit around the thighs too (it did fit better before she slimmed out some).

Have you tried Rumparooz? I've always gotten a good thigh fit there and even though their rise is kind of short it works fine with DD.
